At Saahas Zero Waste, we’ve spent the last five years tackling textile waste, and this week, our efforts were recognized at Bharat Tex 2024. We were proud to receive the Women Entrepreneur Award as the 1st Runner Up for sustainability and social impact in the textile industry. In this blog, we share our journey, the significance of this recognition, and the need for collaboration to drive lasting change in textile waste management
It’s hard to believe that it’s been five years since our team at Saahas Zero Waste first came together to address the growing problem of textile waste. This week, at Bharat Tex 2024, we had the honor of having our efforts recognized in a significant way.
We are proud to share that Saahas Zero Waste was awarded the Women Entrepreneur Award for leading sustainability and social impact in the textile industry, securing the title of 1st Runner Up. This recognition is not just a milestone for our team, but also a testament to the collective effort to tackle one of the most pressing environmental challenges today.
Among the other honorees were Nivedita Banerjee of Kumbaya Producer Company Limited and Sonali Pal of 2323 Design and Sourcing, both of whom are also contributing greatly to sustainable practices in the textile industry.
Our team members, Shobha Raghavan and Astha Khubele, had the privilege of receiving the award from Piyush Goyal, the Cabinet Minister of India for Textiles and Commerce. This moment was a proud occasion, not just for us, but for the larger movement towards sustainable textile waste management.
As we celebrate this achievement, we hope this recognition will shine a spotlight on the solutions that are already available and feasible for textile waste management. Moving forward, we expect both the industry and the government to join forces with us and other like-minded organizations to make real, lasting change in the sector.
Together, we can ensure that textile waste is managed effectively and sustainably, contributing to a cleaner, more responsible future for the industry.
